7 years to go: Committing to the SDGs Agenda

We are coming to the end of a decade, a decade that came along with so much innovation that we even lost track. As we enter the next decade, we have a deadline for the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)

In 2016 the SDGs came into effect. They are defined by the United Nations as "the blueprint to achieve a better and more sustainable future for all. They address the global challenges we face, including those related to poverty, inequality, climate change, environmental degradation, peace and justice."

If we have any hope of making it to reach the SDG goals we have to pick up our game. In whatever field you are, you have the possibility to take at least one of the SDGs and push for it relentlessly.

I am committing to the below:

  • 3 - Good Health and Well-Being - I am writing my doctoral thesis on shared value as a business strategy in pharmaceuticals. The end result will be recommendations that can be utilised to tweak access to health programs to help us reach our 2030 goal. Please get in touch if this topic interests you too.

  • 1- No Poverty, 10 - Reduced Inequalities, 4 Quality Education - With our work at Friends for Matibi and SwiZimAid we are engaging directly in local communities in Zimbabwe with wide ranging poverty alleviation projects. Please get in touch if you would like to support any of this work. swizimaid.ch & matibi.ch

  • 12 - Responsible Consumption and Production - On a personal level I commit to ensuring that my consumption will be responsible by buying as much locally produced items as possible. I will continue to recycle plastic, paper, bottles, gadgets and everything that I can!

Which SDG will you commit to? While this is great as a personal commitment, I encourage you to share with someone for accountability. We can come back to this post in 5 years and again in 10 years to check on our progress. I wish you a joyful decade.
