Who else can relate? This is exactly how I feel when I put a good book down. After walking through the good as well as the bad times with characters, crying along with them and smiling when they overcome.
I related to the novel Americanah by Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie which tells the story of a young Nigerian woman, Ifemelu, who immigrates to the United States to attend university.
When the book ended, I was both sad and happy. Happy that she found love and sad that I had finished it in a week. It is on my shelf and ready to be re-read as soon as I get through the books in my library (whenever that maybe).
That kind of writing inspires me, it helps me as I write my first book and think about bringing my characters to life.
